In the last 24 hours a trace to one inch of snow has fallen with light winds out of the northwest. Temperatures this morning are 5-10F under mostly cloudy skies. Today, temperatures will warm into the teens as skies begin to clear. A few flurries will dust slopes as winds continue to blow northwest at 10-20 mph. Sunny skies are on the docket for the rest of the week.
Yesterday the Bridger Range picked up 3-4 inches of low density snow, all other areas picked up a trace to one inch. Today, weak disturbances imbedded in a northwest flow will produce a slight chance of snow in the northern mountains; the mountains around Cooke City and West Yellowstone will likely remain dry. Currently, temperatures are in the single digits F and winds are blowing 5-10 out of the WNW with the exception of the Bridger Range where winds are blowing 10-25 out of the WNW. Today, temperatures will warm into the teens under partly to mostly cloudy skies and winds will blow 5-20 out of the WNW. The northern mountains will continue to see a slight chance of snow where 1-2 inches is possible by tomorrow morning.
Overnight a trace of new snow fell in the mountains. An additional 1-2 inches is possible by this afternoon. Currently, temperatures are in the single digits F and winds are blowing 5-10 mph from the WSW. Temperatures will warm into the teens today and winds will switch to the WNW blowing 5-15 mph. No snow is expected tonight through tomorrow.
Over the past 24 hours a trace to one inch of snow fell in the mountains. Currently, temperatures are in the single digits and westerly winds are blowing 5-15 mph with gusts in the 20s. Today, temperatures will warm into the high teens to low twenties F and winds will continue to blow 5-15 from the west. Skies will become partly to mostly cloudy by this afternoon as a weak storm system approaches. Light snow is likely by tomorrow morning with 1-3 inches possible by tomorrow afternoon.
Since yesterday the mountains near Bozeman and Big Sky received 2-3 inches of snow while mountains further south received a trace to one inch. Light snow was still falling this morning but should end soon as dry air moves over SW Montana today. Temperatures this morning were near 10 degrees F and should warm to the mid-teens to 20 F today. Westerly winds at ridgetops in the Bridger and northern Gallatin Ranges were averaging 20 mph with gusts of 30 mph. In all other areas westerly winds averaged 5-10 mph with gusts of 15-30 mph. Overall for today expect generally light winds, cold temperatures, and sunshine.
Yesterday afternoon the mountains near West Yellowstone received 2-3 inches of snow and other areas received about an inch. It was snowing this morning with an additional 2 inches recorded near Big Sky by 6 a.m. Temperatures were in the low teens and high single digits F this morning, and winds were averaging 10 mph from the NW with gusts of 15-20 mph. Snowfall will end this morning with little additional accumulation. Some snow will return tonight mainly in the mountains near Bozeman and Big Sky where 1-3 inches will fall. Areas further south should only receive a dusting.
At 6 a.m. it just started snowing around Big Sky with an inch falling. Mountain temperatures are 5-10F with southwest winds at 15-25 mph. The Bridger Range is calmer and warmer with 5-10 mph winds and temperatures in the teens. Today will be cloudy as temperatures rise into the upper teens with light to moderate southwest winds. Tonight winds will switch to the northwest, but speeds will not increase much. Scattered snow showers will drop 1-3 inches by morning.
This morning is when we all found out if we’ve been naughty or nice, as if we didn’t already know. Santa is a judgmental soul but still brought most of us gifts of snowfall: 5 to 6 inches in the northern Gallatin and Madison Ranges, 3 to 4 inches in the southern mountains and just a trace, the equivalent of a lump of coal, to the Bridger Range. Winds spiked yesterday afternoon to 30 mph for a couple hours, but otherwise have been light at 10-15 mph out of the west. Mountain temperatures are in the single digits and will only rise into the teens today under clearing skies. No new snow is expected in the next 24 hours.

The southern Madison Range and mountains around Big Sky including the northern Gallatin Range picked up 1-2 inches. The Bridger Range has remained dry. Today, the southern ranges will see an additional 3-5 inches while the north will pick up 2-4 inches. Currently, temperatures are in the teens F and winds are blowing 10-20 out of SSW. Today, highs will reach into the 20s F and winds will remain out of the WSW at 10-20 mph. Snow will taper off this evening as the storm pushes east. Very little snow is expected tonight and Christmas Day looks to be dry.
Overnight a fast moving weather disturbance dropped 2-3 inches of snow in the mountains around West Yellowstone and Cooke City including the southern Madison Range. The mountains around Bozeman and Big Sky picked up a trace to one inch. Currently, temperatures are in the teens F and winds are blowing 10-20 out of the SSW with gusts reaching close to 30 mph. Today, highs will climb into the 20s F under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Winds will continue to blow 10-20 from the SSW. A more potent storm will impact our area tonight and tomorrow. 1-3 inches is possible by morning with 4-6 inches likely by tomorrow afternoon.
